How to Add Seasonal Decor and Stay in Your Aesthetic

Kailee Wright Walmart home decor

similar top + similar jeans  ||  pillow + blanket

As much I always miss summer, Fall is one of my favorites as well! It just screams cozy to me! And it is always the beginning of so many fun holiday traditions to finish up the rest of the year. With the seasons changing and holidays, one thing that we tend to add into our home is seasonal decor. This can be anything from the window clings our kids know and love, to pumpkins covering every surface, and can easily get out of hand!  So today I thought it would be fun to team up with Walmart and share some of my biggest tips to adding seasonal decor while staying in you aesthetic.

Kailee Wright Walmart home decor

: FOCUS ON ACCESSORIES

My biggest tip is to focus on the accessories in your home. For me personally, when it comes to seasonal decor, less is more. By that I mean instead of adding a lot of clutter, I take the accessories already featured in my home, like pillows, blankets, and baskets, and swap them out for a more seasonal touch. This can mean swapping out your throw pillows for more muted tones, or just adding some more textures. These simple changes can give you a more seasonal feel without completely changing your overall style.

: SWITCH UP YOUR GREENERY

If you know me, you know I love plants and all things greenery. I have pops of both real and faux plants throughout my house because I love that it can be a pop of color and texture to a more neutral aesthetic.  t instantly brings a pop of color and texture to the space. Having greenery throughout your home is a great way to switch up your seasonal decor as well. I love real flowers in the Spring + Summer, faux branches and leaves like these in the fall, and a garland in the winter months.

Walmart Home is one of my favorite places to shop seasonal home decor. You can find great items like pillows, blankets, baskets, and even faux greenery for a great price! I love that they have a good variety of options for you to mix and match. Plus they give you the option of quick shipping, pickup + delivery to save time! WHAT WE BOUGHT FROM AMAZON – JULY + AUGUST

kailee wright amazon favorites

Oh Amazon. What did we ever do without your convenient 2 day shipping? You have really brought retail therapy to a whole new level!! And let’s be honest, probably made me way more resistant to ever go to the actual store again unless I HAVE to! I love seeing what other people find and love from Amazon so today I’m sharing a roundup of all of our best Amazon purchases of July + August. From some amazing dresses + loungewear, to the water flosser Joe has fallen in love with, the details are all below!

. . .

: RANDOM AMAZON FINDS :

First up, let’s talk the random finds. These are the things people usually aren’t sharing about all over Instagram because they are just household every day things. But some of these were major scores so I had to share!

: Pajama Set

If you follow along over on Instagram, you may have seen this set x 10. My residency sisters and I threw a surprise birthday party for one of the girls and of course matching is a must! We found these darling super comfy matching sets that we all loved!

: Water Flosser

This water flosser is another one that actually did make an appearance over on Instagram because Joe is in love! Haha! No, but really he is obsessed and shocked by the results. As gross as it sounds, your mind will be blown at how much it gets out of your teeth even after brushing!

: Sunglasses

I saw a friend wearing these and had to try them out. I love the more vintage aviator look to them.

: Makeup Remover Cloths

Nothing overly exciting about these makeup remover cloths,  but love them.  They work great + are super affordable compared to most you will find!

: BCAA’S

We have been using these BCAA’s for a couple years now and really love them. Don’t taste gross at all!

: Men’s Tee

If I can find a tee Joe likes and will actually wear, I will buy 100 of them! This is one of those great basic tee finds! Under $10 and comes in a million colors!

: Cutting Board Stand

Just a simple clean black stand for cutting board display. Love that it is good quality and sturdy but very minimal.

: Drain Hair Snake

I won’t go into detail on this one, but 4 girls with lots of hair, this thing is necessary!

. . .

: AMAZON FASHION FINDS :

I LOVE this top!! The pom pom detail is so fun but still subtle enough to not be too much. The blush pink is such a pretty color and I love that sleeve detail!

kailee wright amazon lounge set

: SWIM COVER UP

Meet your new favorite swim cover up! I wore this non-stop at the pool and on vacation. It feels like pajamas and is the perfect lightweight material. I love that the shorts aren’t too crazy short either!

kailee wright amazon tie dye sweat set

sweatshirt + shorts + bracelets

: LOUNGE SET

You know my love for loungewear and tie dye, so when I found this top + shorts set that combined both on Amazon it was a must have! Super comfortable! I love it is two separates so if the shorts aren’t your jam you could just do the top. Would be great for a teen too as Hunter keeps stealing it!

kailee wright amazon black jumper

my set + sandals

: TANK LOUNGE SET

Another great Amazon lounge set finds was this tank and jogger one piece set. I loved wearing it as a cover up again or just around the house in the summer. Super comfortable!

Anyone else having a love hate relationship with the fact that Summer is over?? I swear that was the shortest summer on record!! But before we officially say goodby to Summer, I wanted to share a roundup of your top favorites for the month of August! From great fall transition pieces to family picture must haves, the gang is all here in your top 10 for August!

Free People white dress

my dress + boots + bracelets + necklace + hat

: WHITE DRESS + BOOTS

This dress + these boots are my top contenders for family pictures right now. I love a classic white dress and the lace detail on this one just puts it over the top. And these boots are my new obsession! I collect cowboy boots and am loving the comfort and style of these low booties.

kailee wright amazon dress

my dress + flip flops + bracelets

: Polka Dot Dress

When it comes to summer you can usually find me living in dresses. It is way too hot for pants!! Haha that combined with the cute + easy put together look a dress gives you and I am sold. This was a favorite Amazon find this month! I love how versatile it is!

Kailee Wright free people jumper

my top + jumpsuit + sandals + hat + bracelets

: Hot Shot Onesie

Feels like pajamas but can be worn out and about? Consider me sold!! You all know my love of this onesie, so when it FINALLY came back in stock in August I was all over it. I have it in a few colors because it is that good. I love that it can transition from swimsuit cover up to date night look just by changing your top and shoes. And did I mention it feels like pajamas? So good!

Kailee Wright Free people Hailee Set

my sweater set + similar shoes + hat

: Hailee Sweater Set

This set is another one I have had for a few years and I just love it more and more as time passes. It is the perfect piece to wear all year long. Light enough that it still feels breathable in warmer weather, but cozy and comfortable for Fall and Winter. It comes in some great color options and something I consider a wardrobe staple for sure!

madwell jeans

my top + jeans + shoes + hat + bracelets

: Pembroke Top

This top was a surprise one for August. I added it to my cart thinking it might be good but was kind of questioning it. I am SO glad I did!! It has been on repeat and quickly making its way to one of my favorites. I love the color for Fall and that subtle puff sleeve detail.

Madewell mustard linen pants

my pants + similar top + hat

: Smocked Wide Leg Pants

These are another purchase that just keeps getting better. They meet my favorite criteria of feels like pajamas but can be dressed up for date night. Major win! Again I love the color for Fall and how versatile they are.

free people $30 workout shorts

my shorts + bra top

: FREE PEOPLE SHORTS

I have shared these shorts at least a dozen times because they are that amazing!! The thick high waist band is what dreams are made of. It completely stays put and holds you in just right. The length is enough to not get in the way, but you won’t have any cheek slippage (plus built in undies). If that wasn’t enough reason, they come in the funnest colors and are only $30!

Free People jumper / overalls

my top + jumpsuit + sandals + hat + bracelets

: Sezanne Jumpsuit

These next two prove to me you are my people. Two more overall style jumpsuits topped the list!! This first one is a more fitted version of the hot shot onesie we talked about above. I love that it still gives you the comfort of a jumpsuit, but has a more structured look if you aren’t ready to dive head first into the baggy trend. This soft pink color is dreamy in real life too!

Free People jumper / overalls

my overalls + similar swim top + sandals + sunglasses

: Sun Drenched Overalls

And last but not least these overalls .The Free People Gods finally heard us and brought back this best seller from a few years ago! I love these so much I have them in 3 colors!! Beyond comfortable and so versatile. I love traveling with them because they work great as a swim cover up, but you can put nicer shoes and a nice top on and you are ready for dinner!

. . .

That sums up our top 10 for August! I hope these give you some good options for great staples that will transition well for your fall wardrobe!

Family Favorite Recipe: Chicken Roll Ups + 50 Dinner Ideas!

Kailee Wright kitchen cookingsimilar top + similar jeans  |  pans  |  planter

Is it just me or does Summer basically equal your kids surviving on grilled cheese and quesadillas for dinner? Haha! We are constantly go go go that actual good homemade dinners tend to go on the back burner on my scale of importance. But will school back in action and us getting back into our routines, I’m ready to get our at home family dinners going again too! Which means I needed some ideas and you guys did not fail me!!! Below you will find a list of ALL the amazing dinner ideas you gave me PLUS a recipe for our families favorite chicken roll ups!

Kailee wright Cream-Cheese-Chicken-Roll-Ups-with-Gravy

: CHICKEN ROLL UPS

Do you have a meal that totally screams comfort food to you? For me, one of those is these chicken roll ups! I grew up eating them regularly, and they are now one of the most requested meals from my own kids too! Not only are they delicious, but they are super quick + easy to make!! So let’s get to the recipe!

– INGREDIENTS –

6-8 chicken breasts (rotisserie chicken works great too if you are short on time)

chicken broth

1-2 8 oz packages cream cheese

crescent rolls

chicken gravy mix

As you an see by these ingredients, this is one of those recipes I just kind of eyeball. You don’t want your chicken mixture to be too dry, but you also don’t want to just be eating a spoonful of cream cheese…so do what looks right on the cream cheese vs chicken ratio. 🙂

– INSTRUCTIONS –

Cook chicken in crock pot with chicken broth. When it is done, shred the chicken and mix with cream cheese. Unroll crescent roll dough. Scoop a spoonful of chicken mixture onto each of the roll triangles and roll them up into a ball, making sure chicken mixture is sealed inside.

Bake at 350 for 15-20 until the tops are a golden brown.

While roll ups are baking, mix up your gravy. I just use the powdered gravy mix you add to water.

When rollups are done, pour some of the chicken gravy on top and enjoy!

The Truth About Organizing with Containers

Kailee Wright kids closet organization

my top  + similar jeans + hat  ||  gray baskets + tags + string

My organization course, 30 Days To An Organized Home, launches this week and one of the biggest questions I get is “But what do I do about containers?” I have been asked questions from which ones I use to if you actually need them in order to achieve an organized home, and if it is even possible on a budget.  Just like weights are a tool for strength training, so are containers for organizing.  Can you do it without them?  Yes, but it’s much more difficult to achieve and maintain without them.  So this post is my rundown of all things containers and the common myths about them!

Kailee Wright kids closet organization

pink baskets + gray baskets

Myth 1 : They’re So Expensive

This is like 10% true.  Containers can certainly add up if you have a lot of stuff and you don’t currently have any.  The more things you have, the more you’ll need.  But the 90% truth of the matter is, most containers are built to last.  You shouldn’t need to replace them often if you buy well made items.  And they can be purchased at so many different stores.  I’ve even found amazing options for small items at the dollar store and in the Target Dollar section.  Trust me, they can be as affordable as you need them to be. You just have to look! The pink and gray baskets pictured above are only $6 and those below are under $3! Both cute and functional!

Myth 2 : They Won’t Make a Difference

Okay, this one is super, super false.  If you’ve tried to organize a kid’s playroom or a pantry without a bin, basket, or any sort of container, you know how well that goes.  It may look okay for a day or two, but the organization never lasts long.  The purpose of containers is to give everything a place.  When everything has a place, you and anyone in your home can easily find it, put it away, and reorganize as necessary.  Containers are, in my opinion, necessary for long-lasting organization.

Myth 3: I Need All Of The Same Containers

False!  As you’ll see inside the course and within our own home, you can absolutely use different types of containers, even in the same space.  In fact, I recommend it!  For example, look at the image above in my pantry. There are some items I want to be able to see easily.  For those, I opt for acrylic ones or wire baskets.  There are also many things I’d like to keep hidden like medicines, mismatched chips/back stock, or treats I’m hiding from my kids! For those I opt for woven bins or a colored plastic that isn’t through. The same goes for closets and bathrooms. Use the variety of containers both in size and materials to match what you are organizing.  It’s absolutely okay to mix and match for your style, space, and budget.

At the end of the day, containers are just a part of organizing. I will walk you through exactly how to find the perfect options for your newly organized home in my new course, 30 Days to An Organized Home, that launches on September 1st!

Hunter’s Room

Hunter Room Reveal

wallpaper  ||  bed  ||  bedding: white duvet + pink blanket + pillows  ||  similar nightstand + similar vases

Hunter has been begging for her own room for a couple of years now. I wasn’t against it, but I was trying to decide if I was ready to move Harper downstairs. Spoiler- I wasn’t! While she waited for me to make up my mind, she kind of slowly moved herself into our guest room instead! Ha! It actually worked out well. But it needed a few changes to make it feel more like a teen space and match her style. Over the last couple of months we have taken the time to do just that and love how it turned out!! Sharing all the fun details with you today!

Hunter Room Reveal

The biggest change we made to the space was the wallpaper. Prior to her taking over the space, it was a very neutral guest room. She didn’t want anything too crazy, just a pop of pink. We didn’t find anything we both loved, so we reached out to Indigo Design and were able to design this custom wallpaper together! They are so great to work with and help you incorporate all your ideas to find just what you are looking for! I love that it brings in color but isn’t too in your face! If you are in the market for wallpaper I highly recommend them + you can use code KAILEE20 for 20% off!

Hunter Room Reveal

When it comes to bedding you know we love all things Cariloha! Their sheets, pillows, and duvets are dreamy so that was for sure one of Hunter’s biggest requests! You can use code KW to save site wide as well! In addition to that we just added a few pillows and a throw blanket we already had upstairs in the house, to accent the white bedding. I love how it keeps it simple but adds a little bit of color for her.

Hunter Room Reveal

Everything else in the space we kept as it was originally in the guest room, with a few more small pops of pink like this pillow and vase.  I love that we were able to transform the space, but not have to have a big budget. We hope you love it too!

Back to School Favorites For The Whole Family

Kailee Wright JCpenny back to school clothes

hunter’s top + shorts  ||  hayden’s dress  ||  houston’s top + jeans  ||  harper’s overalls

When it comes to Back – to – School shopping things can feel a little overwhelming. Kids are different ages with different personalities and needs so it can make your list feel never ending. One of my biggest tips to help decrease stress is finding stores to shop back to school basics that can cover all your kids’ ages! It not only saves your sanity of shopping at multiple stores with less than thrilled kids, but it saves so much time as well! A great place to do that is JCPenney! We teamed up with them to show off some of the awesome Back to School basics they have this year for the whole family and share a few tips to keep in mind when back to school shopping!

Kailee Wright JCpenny back to school clothes

: TAKE STOCK OF WHAT YOU HAVE FIRST

Before I will start any Back – to – School shopping, I sit down with each of my kids and we do a closet clean out. We take every single thing out of the closet and put it in categories. Then together, not just me, we go through each category. First, we go through and take out everything they say they don’t like anymore or will not wear. I’ve learned there is no point keeping it if it isn’t something they love. They aren’t going to wear it and it is just going to take up space!

After we’ve separated out the pieces we aren’t loving, we then go through and try on EVERYTHING else, so we can weed out the items that don’t fit right anymore. From there I make a list of each category and the needs per child, so we are never over stocking the closets. Simple, minimal wardrobes is always my goal.

Kailee Wright JCpenny back to school clothes

: FIND STORES THAT WORK FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

If you are like me, you probably don’t want to spend days trying to shop for all your kids at a bunch of different stores. We love finding stores that have sizes and styles that work for the whole family. One of those we shopped this year was JCPenney! They are a great option to shop for everyone from toddler to teens (and me too) for affordable good quality basics! And they make shopping convenient with in store, online, or fast pick up options to fit your schedule.

Kailee Wright JCpenny back to school clothes

: BASICS ARE BEST

When it comes to shopping for my kids, I have found that the basics are best. Not only are they so versatile, but they are usually a lot more affordable as well! I love that for example a dress can be worn as is for spring and fall, but as it gets cooler, you could pair it with some leggings and boots and a cardigan and continue to wear it. Hunter loves tanks and basic tees because she can always add a cute jacket and still have a versatile piece. Instead of over stocking up, get pieces that can be mixed and matched and worn all year long.

Kailee Wright JCpenny back to school clothes

: MAKE A DATE OUT OF IT

Last but not least, make it fun. Soak up the time you have with them out of school! If you’ve been here for a while, you know one of our favorite things is our kids’ dates. Each month we try to take the kids on one on one dates with Joe or I. It is such a great time to connect, see how they’re doing, and enjoy them. One of our favorites for summer is back to school shopping. I love that you can even put an online spin on it and do it from home. Grab your favorite treats,  and sit down together, uninterrupted, and make a wish list. Let them take charge and feel a little more grown up navigating the websites and finding what they love!

I hope these Back – to – School Shopping tips and tricks help you get prepped and keep it fun for you and your family!

3 Back to School Traditions We Love

Have your kids gone back to school yet?! My big kids headed back last week, but these two littles and I are soaking up the last couple of days until they are back too!! They cannot wait!! When it comes to back to school,  at our house, we  have some fun traditions we all love and look forward to!  So today I thought I’d share some of those with you and how you can buy now and pay later at OshKosh with Afterpay!

Kailee Wright OshKosh back to school clothes for kids

: BACK TO SCHOOL DATES

When it comes to Back to School shopping, I have found it is a lot easier if I try and tackle most of it myself. I can find pieces that are timeless, transitional, and versatile without too many distractions. And I can spread it out throughout the summer instead of taking one big monster trip.

While I tend to do most of the shopping myself, one of our very favorite Back to School Traditions is our one on one shopping dates. Each of the little people gets to plan a date, just the two of us. They pick where we go to eat and where we shop and they get to pick out one outfit they love that is totally their personality.

This year we took both Houston and Harper to OshKosh B’Gosh and they were in love!! I was having all the feels because I remember shopping there with my mom as a kid too! We are big fans of their timeless + versatile pieces at affordable prices. I love that Harper can wear this cute top + skirt outfit in the Fall and Spring, and pair it with some tights and a long sleeve shirt for winter. And these jeans are some of the only ones that fit tiny Houston well. Right now you can shop their Buy 1 Get 2 Jeans sale too, which is a great time to stock up!! They also offer Afterpay also makes it easier to shop for the upcoming school year by paying a bit now and the rest later!

Of course, we finish the date with a treat too! It has been so special  just to have that time talking with them one on one. They feel more open to talk about all the excitement they have for the upcoming school year and even worries too. It is something I really look forward to all year, and I know they do too!

. . . SHOP OUR FAVORITE OSHKOSH BACK TO SCHOOL STYLES . . .

: BACK TO SCHOOL DINNER

I would still consider this one a “work in progress” tradition, but something we all love! We started the tradition  a couple of years ago and it was a hit!  I love that you can make it as big or as simple as you want. So, if life is crazy, maybe your back to school dinner tradition is takeout. You do you and what works. You are basically just taking your dinner the night before school starts and adding a little flare. To give you a taste of real life, this year our “meal” was leftover spaghetti, but it was still just as fun and special!

If you want to decorate, I’ve seen quite a few dollar sections that have some adorable school supply banners + die cuts for simple decorations. Or you could tie some balloons to their chair. One friend just put their new backpacks on the back of their chairs with little name strips at each plate. So easy with things you already have but it means so much to them. You can make their favorite meal, or even get takeout from their favorite place. I love how simple it is but will be such a fun memory and something for them to look forward to. It is a special time for them to talk about things they nervous or excited about, new teachers and friends, and of course what they want to wear!

: BACK TO SCHOOL BLESSINGS

Our last Back to School tradition before the big day is Father’s Blessings. We do these every year on the Sunday before school starts. It is such a special time for us to talk one on one with them about what they are nervous about or would like help with that year, and Joe is able to give them a blessing of comfort.

. . .

I hope these back to school traditions give you some fun ideas to incorporate with your family too!! Don’t forget that Afterpay makes back to school shopping even easier. Just select Afterpay at checkout as your payment method!

5 Reasons To Organize Your Home This Fall

my dress  ||  hunter: tee + shorts  ||  houston: tee + shorts  ||  hayden: tank  ||  harper: top + shorts  ||  hudson: tee + shorts  ||  step stool + bar stools  ||  containers: clear + similar white + pink

Do you consider yourself an organized person?  I’ve always thought that I was very Type-A, organized, even to a fault… and then I had five kids! And I realized how much harder it gets to organize with each child!  I also learned something important about myself. When I felt organized and I felt like my house was clean, I was an even better mom.  I was able to help my kids find their toys easier, get ready for school easier, and plan fun vacations and not worry about what the house would be like when we came home. Going from all the different games and practices was easier because I was able to be well-prepared with treats and equipment ahead of time.  Taking the time to organize changed my mom-game.

And  because of that,  I had to share with you, which is why I created a course. 30 Days To An Organized Home with Kailee Wright became my mission to create a step-by-step process that anyone can use to go category by category through their home and create an efficient, beautiful space to live in.  Organization affects every facet of my life. My relationships, my business, my parenting, and our home is just the beginning.  I want everyone to feel that sense of satisfaction and clarity that comes with a clean home.

Back to School and Fall in general is a sort of fresh start for us.  We go hard during the summer with sports, vacations, swim days, and family time, but that can mean a few of our regular routines and habits fall out of balance.  I love to get our home and family back on track with a freshly organized home and routine, and here are a few reasons why I think you should too!

Like I said above, routines can tend to fall out of balance during the summer.  With back to school, I like to get back into a daily family routine and chores are certainly a part of that.  And you know what makes chores much, much, much easier?  Organization!  Name something less fun to do than try to put clothes away in a dresser that is bursting at the seams with unfolded clothes.  I’ll wait. ps – head to this post for our free chore chart download

: Save Money

Going through my 30 Days to An Organized Home e-course will save you money.  It just will.  Even after the cost of the course and containers, you will have saved money. And maybe even MADE money if you choose to sell items you no longer need or use.  In the beginning of the course, I walk you through home intake, a systematized way of looking at what comes INSIDE your home and that oftentimes is a huge money saver.  When you’re more conscious about what you’re buying, and you have limited space to put things, you are less likely to make impulse purchases.

: Prepare For The Holidays

The holidays are crazy town for everyone and they also usually mean an influx of products, gifts, and food.  Get your home organization in place and systematized BEFOREHAND to eliminate holiday overwhelm and clutter.

: Do It With Others

Launching on September 1, I am creating a community full of doers ready to get organized before the holidays!  Join us in the tasks and we can share posts using hashtag #30dayswithkailee.

: Because You Deserve It

This one is the most important.  You deserve to live in a clean, organized home, and to go to bed at night with mental clarity and calm.  To have a closet full of only clothes that you love to wear.  You deserve to spend more time with your children instead of cleaning up too many toys.  To walk into an organized pantry when cooking.  You deserve ALL of that.

My new organization course launches September 1, 2021! I can’t wait to get organizing with you and create a space you LOVE!

Harper’s Big Girl Room

room: similar mirror + side table + chair + pillow + planter

You can tell Harper is my baby and I can’t stand how fast she is growing up, because I put off this big girl room redo for a long as possible. I just wasn’t ready to be done with my last nursery!! But that being said, putting together this room design update was so fun! Since Harper was a little bit older, she was able to help pick out and have a say in a lot more of the room! I hope you love it as much as we do!

If you’ve been around here for a while, you’ve seen Harper’s nursery! You are probably recognizing a lot of the same pieces in her big girl room. Which brings me to my biggest tip of designing rooms in your house. KEEP IT SIMPLE!! You don’t need to go and spend thousands of dollars on making everything 100% all new! Shop your house first! Everything you see in Harper’s room except for her new big girl bed and sheets came from somewhere else in our house. The chair, side table, dresser, mirror, and art were already part of her nursery. I shopped the rest of my house for some extras. I grabbed pillows, blankets, and plants to give it some more texture and patterns. A room update does not have to be hard or expensive if you go about it the right way, but can still have a big impact!

One thing we did update was her mattress. Over on Instagram you saw the poor girl was sleeping on a mattress on the floor for months!! But if you ask my other kids, she is the luckiest because it is such a dreamy mattress! We wanted something that was good quality and would last for years but also be so comfortable so of course we went with Cariloha! It is amazing you guys! The big kids are all jealous and asking when they get to upgrade theirs too! We have their towels and sheets and love them all! You can use code KW to save too!

One of the biggest changes we made to Harper’s Big Girl Room was this fun new wallpaper accent wall! I searched high and low for something I loved and just couldn’t find it. I reached out to indigo design about working together and they were all in! Harper and I were able to pick out colors and design this fun new print with them, officially named Harper Pink Dots! I love that it adds a fun pop to the space and keeps it a little more kid room styled, but is still muted colors so it isn’t out of control. And it is removable! So I don’t have to worry about it when we finish the new build down the road.

If you are in the market for a fun way to add some personality to your room without the crazy commitment of actual wallpaper or paint, you NEED indigo design. Not only were they amazing to work with, the quality is so good! You can order samples until you figure out exactly what you want, and they help with all the technical stuff making it a super easy diy! Plus you can use code KAILEE20 to save as well!

I hope you love these fun updates as much as we do! And that you realize you can easily update your space on a small budget by thinking outside the box and shopping what you already have!!

4 Things I’ve Learned This Past Year

It’s my birthday!! If you know me you know I love all things celebrating! Give me all the cake + ice cream! But one of my favorite things to do on my birthday is actually to look back on the past year. I love to take a minute and write down the things that stand out to me the most that I learned that year. It can be an actual new skill, or just as simple as things I’ve learned about myself. As I thought back for this year, there were some big ones that changed a lot for me and I thought could be helpful to some of you, so today I’m sharing a few of them!

: INVEST IN YOUR MENTAL HEALTH

In years past, mental health has always seemed like kind of a taboo subject. Especially when it comes to women’s mental health. If I think back to our parents generation, it seems like it was looked at as almost embarrassing to admit you felt unsure of yourself, lost, or struggling. But something I’ve learned this past year, is it’s ok to invest in your mental health. And not only that, but that it feels so healing when you do.

I’ve also learned it is ok to see a therapist/counselor or hire a life coach! Which is what I have recently done – is find an amazing life coach. I think I always kind of thought you have to have had some kind of life changing event in your childhood for it to be ok to see a therapist or counselor. But in reality, sometimes just having someone else to talk to and help you sort out your thoughts and emotions and where they are coming from can make a huge difference. I also learned I am not alone in feeling this mental funk and need for more help and clarity. When I shared about it recently, so many of you reached out in solidarity, love, and encouragement. Don’t be afraid to take the time to invest in you.

Another little self tip I have started doing is a nightly brain dump in a notebook. It is exactly as it sounds…I just write down every single thing in my head. Not just a to do list, but how things made me feel. Things that made by day better or worse, feelings about different relationships, anything and everything.  It has given me so much clarity and almost released a burden I was carrying because it kind of keeps you from over analyzing and dwelling on the unnecessary, and helps you see the positives and the gratitude in your life too.

: YOU CAN CREATE YOUR OWN SUNSHINE

I first heard this concept or thought from my friend Merrick a few years back and it has always stuck with me. She is such a good example of doing this and I love that about her. The basic idea behind it is you create your own fun and happiness. You can’t spend your days waiting around for someone else to make you happy or make your day better. Create your own sunshine and joy in life. For me this means taking the initiative and planning a girls night when I want/need one, making date night a priority for Joe and I, or putting off work to play with my little people. You are in charge of your life and what doing what brings you joy!

Another aspect of this is don’t beat around the bush when it comes to your feelings and wants in life. Speak your mind and ask for exactly what you want, or make it happen. This year was honestly one of the first times I did this for my birthday. Instead of being vague, I told Joe exactly what I wanted/expected. I told him I wanted a night away with him, where I wanted it, and all the details. Instead of putting him in a hard place of guessing and setting myself up for possible disappointment when I knew what I wanted in my head, I made it happen. I created that happiness/sunshine. Whether it’s working on a relationship, or reaching a goal, don’t wait around for someone else to do it for you.

: IT’S OK TO GIVE YOURSELF GRACE

You can be ok with B work. That has been a “quote” I have never liked, because I am a kind of a perfectionist. I just couldn’t get on board with it. But in this past year I have really taken it to heart and learned it’s ok to give yourself grace. My kitchen doesn’t need to be mopped and have every surface sparkling every single night. I can be ok with wiping down counters and doing dishes and consider that job done so I have more time for things that bring me joy. It’s ok if the laundry waits another day. My church lesson doesn’t need to be pinterest worthy every week. The kids will still be grateful that I showed up for them. I’ve really learned that it is ok if things don’t always go 100% according to plans, and that sometimes by giving yourself grace they turn out better!

: TAKE CARE OF YOUR BODY

You all know that over the past couple years I have really made a change in focusing on my health. I started eating healthier and got into a great workout routine. Both my physical + mental health were probably the best they had ever been. Since the summer started, I kind of let myself fall off  the bandwagon. My workouts dwindled, I wasn’t taking the time to make the healthier eating choices, and a sleep routine was non existent. I was shocked at how big of a difference I noticed.

This year I have definitely learned how important it is to take care of your body. You only get one! I talked about the mental health version of this above, but physically is so important too. Taking the time to prep your meals, get some kind of movement in, and stick to a good sleep schedule makes such a difference. As women and parents we can work ourselves to the bone. But all that leaves us with is less than our best for those we love and care about. You have to fill your tank before you can fill everyone else. That goes for having the physical strength and energy, as well as the endorphins and clarity you get from these things too.
