3 Tips To Remember When Buying A Stroller

When it comes to buying baby gear, I kind of consider myself a seasoned veteran. We’ve been through the baby stage with 5 babies now, and have not only found our favorites, but learned from our own mistakes as well. One of the hardest decisions for us when it comes to baby gear, was figuring out what stroller we wanted. We definitely didn’t take the easiest route, and there are a few things I wish I would’ve considered when I was first looking, so today I’m sharing my 3 tips to remember when you are buying your own stroller!

:: TAKE TIME TO THINK OF WHAT FEATURES ARE MOST IMPORTANT TO YOU

Before you even start shopping, take the time to really think about your family size and your needs. Do you need something small and compact? Are you looking for a double? Or do you want your stroller to be more for jogging? Think of your specific situation and use that as a guide when you are shopping and don’t settle!

I say don’t settle because we did early on, and I was never happy with our strollers. I always had my dream set on the Bugaboo Donkey, but told myself it was too much. In the long run, we ended up spending more on multiple strollers than we would have on just going with our dream in the beginning. To me, you should think of the price in use. If you are getting a high quality piece like the Bugaboo Donkey, it is going to last you for years. So that price tag is covering years of use instead of 1 year and wearing out.

:: TEST DRIVE BEFORE YOU BUY

When you buy a car, it is safe to say most people take it for a test drive before buying. To me, a stroller should be no different. I highly recommend going to a place like buybuy BABY, where they allow you to really get a good in depth look and feel for their gear before making your purchase. You can test out everything from storage space to maneuverability before you get your wallet out. Practice folding it up and unfolding to see if it something you do on your own. Does the storage basket fit your diaper bag and all your travel accessories? Get a good feel for it so you feel comfortable with your purchase.

:: GO TO A STORE THAT TRULY KNOWS THEIR STROLLERS

If I could only give you one piece of advice, it would be to do your shopping for baby gear at buybuy BABY. It is basically new parent heaven. As you can probably see from my tips and pictures, we went with the Bugaboo Donkey and have been so happy with it! I wanted to share a few of the features I love about it that make it our dream stroller.

First of all, it meets all my storage needs. With snacks, diapers, toys, drinks, all the things that come with being on the go with 5 little people, I need storage space and the basket on the Bugaboo Donkey is HUGE.

In addition to storage, I love the seat configurations. The babies can face me, away from me, each other, you can hook a bassinet on, or just have the one seat. I love that we have so many options so we can adjust depending on what we are using it for that particular day.

The third thing I love about the Bugaboo is the accessories. Who doesn’t love accessorizing? From easy to attach snack trays, to extra-long canopies to protect your baby from the sun, the Bugaboo can be decked out in everything!

And last but not least is the maneuverability. For such a big stroller, it is so easy to control. My kids can easily push their siblings in it without it feeling heavy or awkward. It is easy to maneuver through crowds too.

7 Things I’ve Learned this Year

In honor of it being my birthday week, I thought it would be fun to share a couple of posts that help you get to know me a little better! I saw a friend recently share a list of things she has learned in her 30’s that really made me stop and think. I found myself nodding along agreeing with her on so many, and realizing how much I’ve grown as a person this last year. So I thought it would be fun to share 7 things I’ve learned this past year that have really changed me for the better.

:: BE HAPPY IN THE MOMENT

If you step back and think about your mindset, I think a lot of us live for the next best thing. The “I can’t wait until” frame of mind. Enjoy the stage you are in because before you know it, it will be gone. I know it is hard to do as a mom of littles, but I promise you, just like everyone tells you, you are going to miss those late night feedings with your baby, or teaching your toddler how to do something all by themselves. Quit living for the future and enjoy the amazing moment you get right now!

:: THE ONLY OPINION OF YOU THAT MATTERS IS YOURS

This one is SO hard for me, and still something I try to work on every single day. But you guys! We waste so so so much time worrying about what everyone else thinks of us, when honestly they are probably too busy doing the same thing themselves. You are never going to be in a place where every single person likes you, and that is ok! One of my favorite quotes that I remind my kids (and myself) of regularly is “You can be the ripest peach in the world, and there’s still going to be somebody who doesn’t like peaches”. If you know you are doing your best and being your best self, that is the only opinion that matters!

:: SELF CARE IS NOT SELFISH

Realizing this little nugget of truth has been one of the biggest game changers in my life this year. Being a busy mom, I always looked at taking time for myself as selfish. I had lots of little people that needed my attention, and leaving them for something that was just for me seemed out of the question. But then I tried it, just maybe an hour a week and noticed the biggest difference. You have to be able to have a balance and take care of you, so you have the strength to in turn take care of your people. Starting out, it might have to be taking that trip to the grocery store alone to give yourself a break. And as you get into different stages it may grow. For me it is my gym time. It is the perfect break for me to clear my head, work on me and have some me time, and then be back and refreshed for my babies.

::LIVING HEALTHY DOESN’T HAVE TO BE HARD

One of the biggest changes I made in my life this year was a healthier lifestyle. It started out with taking the time to workout a few times a week. I instantly felt so much better both mentally and physically and knew I wanted to take it one step further. So I started making healthier choices with my eating. I didn’t go on a crazy diet or cut out all the things, because that is making it hard. My goal was to still be both healthy and happy. So I do what works for me and take it one meal at a time. I personally can’t live without treats, so I found a healthier way to have them. Taking care of ourselves and striving to be healthier doesn’t have to be the hardest thing you’ve ever done! I have never felt better and am so happy I pushed myself.

:: DON’T BE AFRAID TO TRY

To me this one almost gets harder the older you get. We as humans are so dang good at talking ourselves out of trying new things because they might be hard, or we might fail. But guess what?! You will never know until you TRY! A good example of this in my life was working out. For months I talked myself out of it. I didn’t have the time, I was too tired, there was no way I could wake up earlier. All of the things. But then I let myself TRY, and it has been exactly what I needed. I realized I really can wake up every day and push myself to workout. In fact, it is something I crave now. But if I didn’t get up the nerve to just try, I would’ve never known. Give yourself a chance. You are stronger and braver than you think you are!

:: COMPARISON IS A BLACK HOLE

This is another one that is a constant battle, and I think it always will be. With Instagram and Social Media constantly right in our face, it is SO easy to live in a constant comparison spiral. And as someone that has struggled with it, I’m here to tell you it is the worst. I have had to constantly teach myself and remind myself that most of the things people share about themselves and their lives are surface. They are the highlight reels. We don’t share the hard stuff because it isn’t pretty. So stop comparing yourself to them because there is only one you. Nobody else can be me and I need to own that. While I can sit here and compare myself to the more Pinterest mom that has it all together, I’m missing the fact that my little people want me, not someone else.

:: CHERISH YOUR TIME

This is the biggest “work in progress” for me of all the things here. Time is our biggest blessing and what we do with it is so important. A friend told me she keeps this quote in here main room as a constant reminder : “The bad news is time flies, the good news is you’re the pilot”. There is nothing we can do about how fast time seems to fly by, but we have control over how we spend it. Don’t waste your time doing something that won’t matter tomorrow. Be PRESENT and in the moment you are actually in, like I mentioned before.

Back to School Traditions

You guys?! How is Summer already ending?? I am not one bit ready for it. We are just trying so hard to soak in every last second of having the big kids home with us even if it means busy chaos! While my heart wants summer to last forever, I am still attempting to be a responsible mom and prep for Back to School. At our house, we try to make the Back to School checklist a little more exciting. We do that by adding in a few traditions we all love! So today I thought I’d share some of those with you!

:: BACK TO SCHOOL DATE

When it comes to Back to School shopping, I have found it is a lot easier if I try and tackle most of it myself. I can find pieces that are timeless, transitional, and versatile without too many distractions. And I can spread it out throughout the summer instead of taking one big monster trip.

While I tend to do most of the shopping myself, one of our very favorite Back to School Traditions is our one on one shopping dates. Each of the little people gets to plan a date, just the two of us. They pick where we go to eat and where we shop. They get to pick out one outfit they love that is totally their personality.

This year they were all SO EXCITED to get to pick out their Kipling Backpacks too! They have all been begging for turns to look through the website and try and narrow down their favorites. :: BACK TO SCHOOL DINNER

I would still consider this one a “work in progress” tradition, but something we all love! We started the tradition last year and it was a hit! I love that you can make it as big or as simple as you want. So, if life is crazy, maybe your back to school dinner tradition is takeout. You do you and what works. You are basically just taking your dinner the night before school starts and adding a little flare.

If you want to decorate, I’ve seen quite a few dollar sections that have some adorable school supply banners + die cuts for simple decorations. Or you could tie some balloons to their chair. One friend just put their new backpacks on the back of their chairs with little name strips at each plate. So easy with things you already have but it means so much to them. You can make their favorite meal, or even get takeout from their favorite place. I love how simple it is but will be such a fun memory and something for them to look forward to.

:: FINISH UP THE BUCKET LIST

Another “back to school” tradition we have is to finish up our bucket list. That might mean it is a tradition for us to be a little bit of procrastinators. But we take full advantage of these last couple of weeks and finish up alllll the things! That may mean riding our bikes to get ice cream and taking it to the park so we can cross off 3 things in one night, but we are making it happen!! We really have loved having this bucket list! My little people are set on doing it for every season now!

10 Things about our birthday boy Hudson

I don’t know about you, but we are over her trying to cram in everything on our Summer Bucket List and enjoy every last second of it before the little people are back in school! One of our favorite things about summer is our summer birthday boys! We celebrated Houston in July and now we are celebrating Hudson turning 10!! If you know him, you love him! He is so full of energy, our resident baby whisperer, and just the sweetest kid you’ll ever meet. So today I thought it would be fun to share 10 things about him so you can get to know him a little better!

:: HE IS SO FOCUSED, DETERMINED, AND GOAL ORIENTED

If you’ve been around here for very long, or follow along on Instagram, you know Hudson is our baseball star. He literally lives for baseball and you can see it in the way he plays. His heart is completely in every game, and he is determined to always give his very best. You can often find him out in the batting cage hitting for hours, or challenging himself to be able to do more pullups or pushups to keep himself in the best shape he can be. This is all completely on his own because he wants to give his best and I love that about him.

:: HE IS SUPER ATHLETIC + COMPETITIVE

On that same note, I swear he was born an athlete. He is just turning 10 and already has a 6 pack and just so naturally fit. But even though a lot of things come naturally to him, he pushes himself and never accepts better than his very best. He is also very competitive like his dad (which of course has its challenges) even when it comes to board games, but I honestly think mixed with his sweet/tender personality it just makes him strive to be a better version of himself and not focus on being better than others.

:: HE IS SUCH A HARD WORKER

On that same note, he is such a hard worker when it comes to chores and helping around the house too. He is the first to wake up and work through his chore chart so he can go have fun. When he is done, he always asks if there is anything extra he can help me do before he goes, and seems to always be aware when I could use an extra hand with the babies or other things around the house. He very rarely complains about any of the work we ask him to do too, which if you have kids around that age, you know is HUGE. I just love that he is always willing to do his part in our family team.

:: HE EATS LIKE A TEENAGE BOY ALREADY

Heaven help me! This boy can eat! For example, when we have French Toast, he will down like 8-10 pieces of french toast. And that is on normal occasion, not him trying to prove anything. He can drink a gallon of chocolate milk in one day if we let him. It is so crazy and makes me nervous for the teen years to come!

:: HE IS THE BABY WHISPERER

One of my very favorite things to watch is Hudson’s bond with Harper. He honestly loves her so much and it such a sweet thing to see and soak in as a mom. I feel like girls always get all the credit for being the best babysitters, but Hudson is incredible. I know I can completely trust him to help with her when I’m busy whether it is a diaper change, putting her down for a nap, or just keeping her happy. He loves to take the time to just snuggle with her, and the same goes for my sisters babies too. There is just something about him that is so sweet and gentle, that the babies are so calm and happy around him.

:: HE WAS SUCH A HARD BABY, BUT ONE OF MY EASIEST KIDS SO FAR

Speaking of babies, Hudson himself was SUCH a hard baby. He was so so colicky. Like constant uncomfortable pained crying. It was the saddest thing and SO hard on my mom heart. I really didn’t know if we were going to get through it all and kind of gives me anxiety to even think back on. But as soon as he hit about 6 months, he was an angel baby and we could not get enough of him and it has been that way ever since. In fact, we were so obsessed, we couldn’t wait to have another one…hence why Hudson and Hayden are only 2 years apart!

:: HE IS THE BEST FRIEND + INCLUDES EVERYONE

One thing I really look up to Hudson for, is his ability to be such an incredible friend. He really makes it his goal to keep an eye out and make sure everyone is included. There have been times when other moms or teachers have told me that he will leave his group of friends to go see if someone that looks lonely wants to join them. When there is a new kid in class or the neighborhood, he is the first one to jump over and introduce himself and be their friend. He is always the first to stand up for the under dog or the outcast and just sees people as their very best. I wish I was as brave and aware as him when it comes to including everyone and being that person that makes sure everyone feels loved and like they have a friend.

:: HE IS HILARIOUS + SO MUCH FUN

When I look at Hudson, I see so much of Joe! And I’m sure some of you do too when you see the amazing faces (like the picture above) he pulls in our Sunday pictures. He doesn’t love the social media spotlight, just like his Joe, but he is honestly one of the funniest and fun people you will ever meet. He loves for people to be happy and will go out of his way to be crazy and crack jokes to get a smile.

:: HE HAS SUCH A TENDER HEART

One thing about Hudson that I’ve always noticed, is for being such a tough athlete kid, he has such a tender heart. He hates for people to feel sad, hurt, or lonely, and has a very sensitive spirit about him. Even since he was little, he has felt all his emotions bigger. He will still come and snuggle or lay with me when he knows I’ve had a harder day or if he has. I just love that he knows its ok to feel and has never been “too cool” to have emotions too.

:: HE QUIETLY SERVES THOSE AROUND HIM

Hudson always has his focus on those around him. Whether it is looking out for his friends and classmates like I mentioned, or just helping out around the house, he is always quietly serving those around him without looking for extra recognition or anything. Somehow he always knows when I could just use an extra hand or a break with the babies and will come and take them to play. He takes the time to ask how my day is and what he can do to help, even when I know there are things with his friends he would rather be doing. I just always see him doing the smallest things to make another persons day a little brighter and I love that about him.

As you can see, we are pretty big fans of our sweet Hudson. He is as good as they come and we feel so lucky and blessed to have him as part of our crew.

Stocking Up On School Supplies

Tis the season for Back to School Shopping!! Call me crazy, but the when the school supplies come out, I can’t wait to shop through them. I mean is there anything better than a fresh new notebook, never before used crayons, or nice new pens and pencils?! I swear I could go through and stock up on so much stuff. Something about the idea of a fresh new start.

As much as I love shopping for school supplies, actually gathering up my people and taking them to the store is another story. So this year I’ve got a new plan in mind and I think it is going to be a game changer! You all know how much I LOVE Walmart Pickup and Walmart Delivery. I talk about at least once a week because it is a dream come true for a busy mom. I’m going to sit down with each of my people and go through what they want/need and then have it sent straight to me! School supplies all taken care of without leaving the comfort of my bed?! Yes please!

We already started looking through the site and the little people are so excited because Walmart has some cute stuff this year! My 3 Must Have Athleisure Wear Items

Now that I have been sharing a lot more of my health and fitness routine, I’ve been getting a lot of questions about where I shop for workout gear and athleisure wear, as well as what my must have items are! Quality is really important to me in these pieces because I’m going to be working hard in them and I want them to last. They are basically what workout dreams are made of. Haha! I typically lean towards plain black like these because they are so flattering, go with everything, and tend to cover any sweat issues. But when I recently stocked up at Finish Line, I saw this pair too and loved the fun crazy pop of pink!

There is nothing worse than a weak sports bra during a high intensity workout. Nobody wants to feel like they are falling out or not where they belong, so to me a supportive sports bra is a must have. I love getting fun colors or patterns, so I have the option of just wearing the sports bra with the leggings I mentioned above, or layering with a tank or crop.

Last but not least, my athleisure must is cute and comfortable shoes! While I tend to stay more basic and neutral in the clothing, I love to add a fun pop in my shoes. Some of my very favorite go to pairs are pink and green because they just add that element of personality and uniqueness to the look. But besides being cute, they have GOT to be comfortable. There is nothing worse than dealing with achy feet and trying to push through a workout. I’ve linked some of my favorites for both styles and tested comfort below!

Back to School Basics on A Budget

I swear my little people just got out of school and we already heading in to Back to School shopping!! Time flies by way too fast, and I’m secretly over here trying to figure out how I can home school all of them without losing my mind! Haha! With Back to School shopping on the horizon, I HAD to tell you about the amazing pieces we found at Walmart this year! A few months ago I shared some of the basics we had found and were loving for the babies from Walmart, so I thought I’d give them a try for the big kids back to school shopping and YOU GUYS!! I am beyond impressed. Like the outfits we put together are SO DANG CUTE!! And the very best part, every single thing is under $25!!!

When it comes to Back To School shopping for my people, there are 3 steps or tips I always follow that make shopping a breeze and keep me from overbuying items they don’t need. So today I’m sharing those 3 tips + the amazing selection we found in both boys and girls at Walmart!

:: CLOSET CLEAN OUT

Before I will start any Back to School shopping, I sit down with each of my kids and we do a closet clean out. We take every single thing out of the closet and put it in categories. Then together, not just me, we go through each category. First we go through and take out everything they say they don’t like anymore or will not wear. I’ve learned there is no point keeping it if it isn’t something they love. They aren’t going to wear it and it is just going to take up space!

After we’ve separated out the pieces we aren’t loving, we then go through and try on EVERYTHING else, so we can weed out the items that don’t fit right anymore. From there I make a list of each category and the needs per child so we are never over stocking the closets. Simple, minimal wardrobes is always my goal.

:: BASICS ARE BEST

You’ve heard me say it 1000 times and I will probably continue saying it on repeat, basics are always best. Whether it is my closet or my kids closets, I try to keep at least 75% of the pieces as basics. I love that they are easy to mix and match and to dress up or down. One of my favorite things about shopping Back to School at Walmart this year was their amazing selection of basics at crazy prices! Options like these basic tees for the boys for under $5, or these shorts for the girls for $6.

:: SHOW YOUR STYLE WITH SHOES

Letting my kids have free reign of their wardrobes is still something that is a little harder for me. To be honest Hudson would wear shorts and a t-shirt every single day of the year! haha! I still like to have a little input when it comes to their outfit selection, but I always let their personal style shine through with their shoes. It started out as a way for me to give them a say so I could decide the rest, and has become a fun tradition for them now to pick out their shoes every year. Their clothes can stay classic and more neutral, and then have more of a pop with the shoes! I promise it is a great way to save yourself some arguments in the morning!

Now that I’ve shared my tips, lets talk Walmart! I shared how impressed I was with how they’ve really stepped it up in the fashion departments lately, and after Back to School shopping my mind is blown. From basic tees, to dresses, to shoes and accessories we found so many pieces the kids and I both loved this year so I rounded up some of our favorites for you!

The Best Brand to Shop for Your Tween

Those of you who have a tween girl know that shopping for them is far from easy. Shopping for Hunter can be so fun because we have such similar styles. But it can be so frustrating too because she is kind of in that in between stage. Most of the little girl options are too girly and childish for her style, but she isn’t quite fully into some of the more mature looks and styles in the Women’s department either. See what I mean when I say frustrating?!

I have always been a big fan of Topshop and started to notice those were the pieces in my closet Hunter was loving the most. So we went on a little shopping trip and you guys I’m telling you if you have a Tween, run to Topshop in Nordstrom. You will not be disappointed. The Best of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

One of my very favorite, most anticipated, and let’s be honest, stress inducing days is finally here!! The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale has officially opened to the public – so get ready to shop!!!

If you have shopped it in years past, then you know the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is so good it seems like Christmas Morning! Unlike most sales, EVERYTHING you will find in the Nordstrom sale is BRAND NEW product prepping you for the upcoming Fall season. From booties and leather jackets to jeans + the cutest workout wear, this year DID NOT disappoint!!

Now if you aren’t a “seasoned veteran”, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale can be a BIT overwhelming. There are so many incredible deals to shop it can be overwhelming to know where to start!! I’ve shared some great tips to make your shopping experience a little less stressful here. BUT to make things even easier on you, my assistant and I spent the entire day Tuesday at our local Nordstrom shopping the sale inside and out. We hit up every category and took notes (and pictures) on fit and sizing, and narrowed down the items you won’t want to miss! By doing this we hope to make your shopping fun + effective!!

5 Travel Friendly (Equipment Free) Workout Moves

Now that I have started to share more about my health and fitness routine both here on the blog and over on Instagram, I’ve been getting a lot of questions on what I do for my workout. And honestly, it has varied! Up until recently I did Orange Theory about 6 days a week and really loved it! Now I have started doing F45, and though it kills me, I love the challenge. I honestly don’t feel like there is just one set thing I can tell you I do.

One thing I’ve started doing is following a few different fitness accounts over on Instagram. As I see them do tutorials for workouts I love, I will screenshot or save the posts. Then when I am stuck at home to workout, or traveling, I know I have some great options without having to search through a million options on youtube! So since I’ve been traveling so much lately, and with the crazy inconsistency of our schedule, today I wanted to share 5 Travel Friendly Workout Moves I l love, using zero equipment, that are perfect for hotels, grandma’s house, and anywhere in between!

:: TRICEP DIPS

Just thinking about these make my arms burn! They are a quick way to get in a great arm workout while traveling. If you are confined to a hotel room, you can use the bed, the bath tub, or even the seat of a chair to hold on to while you dip down.

:: INCLINE OR DECLINE PUSH UPS

Just like the tricep dips, these are such a great arm workout and you can almost instantly feel the burn. The benefit of doing decline pushups over just a regular pushup is it forces you to actually lift more of your body weight, giving you a harder workout! For the decline you can use anything like the bed or a couch that will elevate your feet above the rest of your body. If you choose the incline option, that will put even more weight and emphasis on your lower chest and triceps.

:: ELEVATED LUNGE SQUATS

For these you’ll want to use a couch, bed, or chair as well. You’ll put one leg up behind you on whatever you are using, and squat down in to a lunge. It will give you a major booty and leg burn!

:: OBLIQUE CRUNCHES

I don’t know about you, but these little oblique muffin top devils are the hardest to tighten up. When I plan out my workout, I always try to include something that will target that area. This is probably the simplest option to get a quick burn. You just lay on your side with one arm out and crunch up towards your hip bone, keeping your legs together and straight.

:: ELEVATED MOUNTAIN CLIMBER CRUNCH WITH DONKEY KICK

Last but not least is the ab + booty burn. I know this is not at all the official name, but it describes it best to me! Haha! You will start with your feet up just like the decline push up, hands in the same push up position. Then you take one leg and pull it in towards your chest and kick it back and up. Repeat with opposite leg.

As you can see, these are some great options for on the go. I am obviously not a fitness expert, hence my creative probably very wrong names for each of the moves. But I’m learning as I go and wanted to share some things that have worked great for me as a beginner and would be easy for you to do at home to start without all the fancy equipment! Yeti Ice Chest – I just bought this for Joe for Father’s Day and we have used it every single weekend. It keep things cold for DAYS!!!
