Living By Family: the Good and the Bad

If you’ve been around here for a while, you know that I have a really close relationship with my family. And when we first moved away for Joe’s school, I wasn’t sure I would survive without living by them! Honestly I was the hardest thing for me – and I really struggled that first year away. I couldn’t imagine doing holidays or birthdays without them there. Little did I know that as much as we missed both families, it would be the push we needed for us to make our own family traditions between Joe + I and the little people. Also I had know idea the we would make some incredible friends that have become like family!

Now that we are back in Utah, I can’t even tell you have much we have loved living by family again! The kids might love it even more than I do, if that’s possible! They get so excited for the unexpected morning visits from my sisters before they head to work – or after school visits, and especially love how much their cheering section has grown at games! haha!

One thing that has been an adjustment for all of us is realizing they have a life with responsibilities and other friends here too. And we can’t just play 24/7. We are so used to our time together being on vacations where everything is 100% family time. So it has been a little different to remember how to do everyday life! We all have busy schedules, but we are trying to get together for regular Sunday dinners. Plus we’re loving that both sets of grandparents are the perfect distance for a quick weekend getaway!

I feel so blessed to be back in Utah again — but I do have to say, if you ever get the chance to move away (even for a short time) do it!!! Honestly, it was the best thing for Joe and I and our relationship. Now I’d love to hear where you all are from + if your currently by family or on your own and what you love about it. Really I wanna know + love connecting more with you all!!

Five Tips for Starting a Blog

kailee-wright-the-sleep-shirt

similar nightgown  ||  houstons pj’s here  ||  harpers headband onesie  bandana bib  ||  faux tree + similar couch + rug

. .  SHOP THE POST  . .

One thing I get asked on a very regular basis is if I have any tips for someone just getting started in the blogging world. So before I get into this, I want you to know that I am by no means an expert. I feel like I am still constantly learning and growing from my mistakes. But that being said, I’d love to share the things I have learned so far that have been so helpful. Or I wish I would’ve known when I was in the beginning stages of my blog. I’ve put together a list of 5 blogging tips and hopefully they will help a few of you out!

  • BE YOU… This is by far my #1 blogging tip I give to people when they ask me for advice. There is only one you for a reason so you should always celebrate that and what makes you you! If you go into blogging wanting to be just like someone else, you are going to be miserable trying to be someone you aren’t. Staying true to your real opinions and advice will make you a more positive voice that people are attracted to and want to be friends with. By staying true to you, you can create a community of like minded readers. And when the tables turn and you need their advice, they are people you can relate to and trust as well!
  • Just DO it!… Nike wasn’t wrong! Ha! But really, if you feel like it is something you would be good at and love doing, go for it! New experiences are always a little scary. This is definitely no exception. It is something you just have to jump in and try to know if its a good fit!
  • FIND YOUR PASSION…Like most jobs, you will be a lot more successful if you are doing something you love and are passionate about. If you aren’t passionate and really interested in fashion, don’t make that the key focus of your blog. Setting the tone of your space to something you are passionate about not only makes your content easier to create, but it will be easier to market as well because you truly do love or care about what you are sharing.
  • WORK HARD…I think a lot of people get the impression that blogging is such a fun + easy hobby. It really can’t take that much work. If only that were the case guys!! Blogging, at least if you are going at it from a career standpoint, is a LOT of work! And I think that is a big surprise to most. It is definitely not a 9-5 job. Sure there is more flexibility to it, but whether you are coming up with good + relevant content, scheduling photo shoots, or reaching out to brands, your mind never really turns off and “goes home” from work. It takes a lot of work to create your “brand” and get it noticed not only by companies, but loyal readers (I have the very best) that will want to stick around and be part of your community. One of my favorite quotes I keep in my work space is “Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard.” You can be the most talented person in the world at whatever you are going for, but without hard work people will continue to pass you by.
  • PHOTO QUALITY MATTERS…This one may not come across quite as “inspirational” as the rest, but when it comes to tips it is always near the top of my list! Like with any tv or magazine advertising, people gravitate towards bright, clear, high quality images, and your blog will be no exception. Take the time to find someone that can shoot for you. And also understands your style and branding so the results are what you are looking for. People read with their eyes first. If your images aren’t interesting they can scroll on by to a different post or blog without a second thought. Your images are usually what get people in the door. So don’t let the quality be something that is lacking.

I won’t sugar coat it…blogging is a stressful thing, and sometimes I find myself questioning if all the time away from my people is it really worth it. But then I reach out to you guys for advice on something in my own life and the help + support you are always willing to provide puts things back into perspective. I can’t tell you how much I love and appreciate the sense of community we have built here. And I hope I can give you that in return. I hope these blogging tips were helpful!!

My Favorite Make Up Ever: Maskcara

. .  SHOP THE POST  . .

I’ve hinted a little bit about this in the past, but I wouldn’t feel like a good girlfriend if I didn’t tell you guys about my go to favorite makeup, Maskcara!! Now let me start off by saying, I have never been someone that loves makeup. I’ve never liked how it feels on my face, and that is why I don’t typically blog about a lot beauty products. (I’m a pretty simple girl)  I want my opinions and recommendations from sales to be real. And since I don’t use a lot of products, that limits things! But you guys, this one has been a total game changer for me!! So I had to share why I love it!

Cara (the owner/creator of this fabulous product) is actually a good friend of mine and I started using it way back when she first started. I can’t even tell you how fun it has been to watch her company grow. I am so proud of her and what a huge brand this has become. Everyone that I know that has tried this makeup instantly falls in love because it is just that good!

Kailee Wright_Maskcara Makeup

The thing I love the most about Maskcara is that it seriously only takes me 5 minutes to put it on, from start to finish. (I’m sharing an Instagram Story of how I do my make up in the car!) With our crazy schedule + 2 babies that are always wanting to be held in the mornings, this is huge for me! Five minutes is completely doable, and then I can head into my day feeling put together! It is amazing to me how much more focused I am and I can accomplish when I take the time to get ready for the day.

Another thing I love is the coverage and feel of it. Like I said, growing up I didn’t usually wear a lot of makeup because I couldn’t stand how it felt on my face. It always feels like to get good coverage, it had to feel heavy, and almost greasy. That’s not the case at all with Maskcara and the coverage is so good!! It goes on super light and smooth so you don’t feel weighed down or like it’s caked on. It’s also so easy to highlight and contour with their step by step guides. (I didn’t even know what that was!) Plus, I feel like it looks so pretty and natural on any skin type.

I love sharing my favorites with you guys, and definitely couldn’t leave this one out! If you have any questions or want help color matching yourself just let me know!! I am happy to help!

Hunter’s Invisalign

tee  |  jeans + here  |  tennies  |  watch  |  lipstick  ||  hunters tank top  |  bow  |  shorts

. .  SHOP THE POST  . .

Somehow time has just flown by, and Hunter is already old enough to be in the stage of life where it is time for braces! (I know…I can barely talk about it) My cousin is the orthodontist for Beckstrom Orthodontics in St. George so we headed down and got Hunter all set up!

I always dreaded putting my kids through the torture of wearing braces, but am totally feeling like she is lucking out, because she gets to do Invisalign instead and miss out on all of the embarrassing photos! ha! You can hardly tell she is wearing them, and she says they aren’t too uncomfortable either. I love them for the simplicity and how easy they are to use. All we have to remember is to switch out the tray once a week , and we don’t have to go in for monthly appointments, which you know I love!

A lot of orthodontists are moving more in this direction because it is easier to customize to your needs, and like in Hunter’s case, we can break it up in to two stages, one now and one when all her adult teeth come in.

As soon as we are done with Hunter,  JOE is next in line! (his trays are actually waiting for him in St. George – he just now has to find some time to get down there). The man has had braces TWICE and took them off himself because he hated them so much, and refuses to do them again. Brian has convinced him these were made for him and will be a quick fix!!

If you are in Utah, I highly recommend Beckstrom Ortho,  and it really isn’t just because he is my cousin! (But honestly they are amazing!! Really you can ask anyone) With mom brain going strong over here, I need things to be as simple and easy to keep organized as possible so I love that they have such a nice system down! Through their 24/7 patient system, you can do just about everything when it comes to scheduling and payments online, + they send text reminders of everything to your phone too! I love when companies are up to date on all the technology.

So if you have any questions at all leave them below and I will answer everything that I can. And if I can’t I’ll ask Brian and let you all know asap.

We love happy mail days at our house, and one of the things we look forward to the most every season is our FabFitFun Box! For those of you who don’t know, FabFitFun is a quarterly subscription box. It’s full of fun finds in beauty, wellness, fashion + fitness. It is a great way to find out about new products and get a little sneak peek sample of things you might not just go out and buy yourself! I’ve shared a few of my favorite items from my FabFitFun boxes before, like my amazing scarf from last winter’s box. And this season’s box did not disappoint!

First of all, I am a sucker for a good presentation, and they have that nailed! It always comes in the cutest box and my kids think it is like Christmas to uncover each individual thing to see what surprises we got!

It’s also such a great deal! Usually the items add up to around $200, and the box retails for  only $49.99. I think it would be such a fun gift for a sister or girlfriend + who doesn’t love a good mail package?!

The new Fall Box has so many fun finds! I feel like whoever put it together had Hayden and I mind! We’ve already done multiple manicures with the Deco Miami Lavender Cuticle Oil. Plus Hayden is begging me to let her do the Whish Mud Mask with me too! Haha! If you’ve ever gotten the box before tell me you past favorites – I’d love to know!!

Use coupon code KAILEE for $10 off your first box at FabFitFun.

I don’t know how it happened, but Halloween is already just around the corner and it is ALL this girl can talk about. She changes what she wants to be every other day, and her obsession with all things dogs + princess not to mention ninja turtles is making narrowing it down quite the hard choice! Haha!

I also noticed I may have passed on my love for twinning right on down to her. She has an overwhelming amount of stuffed animals, and when she found out she could match them to her dress, she about died with excitement! I’m thinking at this rate we may just have to get her down to two favorites and she can wear one to school and one Trick or Treating!

Are your little people as excited as mine to pick out their costume?! I’d love to hear what they are wanting to be or your most creative costume in years past! We are needing all the help we can get over here!! haha.

Instagram Round Up + Weekend Sales

Last week was such a good week! Hayden turned 6 and my baby sister announced that she was pregnant and we had a found out they are having a boy! We did a little gender reveal at our tiny rental, but it still felt so nice to have everyone cramped in all together.

My girlfriends came into town last weekend from Cali so I’m spending the weekend with them. It felt so good to have them here. They came to see the house and go to the Idaho Parade of Homes as one of our friends’ house is in it.

This week Joe and I were able to spend a night in park city for our bleated birthday presents to each other. It was a much needed break for both of us. I’m looking forward to next week and spending some down time + finishing up a bunch of house stuff! Hope you all have a wonderful weekend with your people!

Maximizing Your Closet with a Few Key Pieces

. .  SHOP THE POST  . .

So I’ve been trying to make a goal of organizing and simplifying my closet. Especially now that we are all sharing very limited closet space. I’ve shared my 5 tips for cleaning out your closet in the past. I have been trying to make it a point to find pieces that can function in more than one outfit. Not only does it save space, but it’s a great way to save money on additional items you really don’t need!

Today I wanted to show you how easy it can be with this navy top from Amazon’s Ella Moon Collection. A few weeks ago I shared how I styled this dress from a day to night look. That is exactly why I love this collection!! It is full of pieces that can work as  perfect staples for a variety of looks. I knew this navy top would be just what I needed to go with my favorite floral skirt, but didn’t want to get it just for that one outfit.

Thanks to my obsession with Amazon Prime and its speedy 2 day shipping, I decided to go for it and see if I could work it in with other pieces to create another look, and it turned out great!

I love that the lace detail gives it that feminine touch, making it feel formal enough to wear with a skirt, but not too much that it can’t be paired with basic white jeans and sandals. Now tell me your favorite piece in your closet that you feel like you can pair with anything to get multiple outfits out of it? I always love hearing all your favorites + ideas!!

9 Great Date Night Ideas

So Joe and I used to be really good about going out on a regular date night. In California we went out about every other week. But since moving to Utah we have totally gotten out of the habit. We are trying hard to get back into a routine.

We usually just end up going to dinner. I honestly just enjoy the uninterrupted conversation! So since our dates are pretty casual I always reach for go to are my black jeans and a loose blouse. Or I’ll keep it simple with a dress + booties.

So if you know Joe you know he lives in basic tees. We hardly ever stray from them. He recently picked up a few more from Nordstrom along with a new pair of jeans. Joe had no  nice sneakers, so I made him pick some out! So on that note, I’m sharing a few more of our favorite casual date night looks below!!

Also last week I asked you guys to share your best date night ideas on instagram and you all came through with flying colors!!! So I don’t know about you, but Joe and I sometimes get in a rut for date nights and can’t get out of it. Anyone else struggle coming up with new ideas for date night? So I gathered all the best and sharing 9 GREAT date night ideas below!! Enjoy!!

. 9 GREAT DATE NIGHT IDEAS .

  1. Kid at heart: Do something the inner kid in you would love! Head to an arcade, go mini golfing, play laser tag or go bowling. These are usually the dates we love the most because we can’t stop laughing the whole time so live it up! It is a great way to just forget about being an adult for a little while!
  2. Restaurant roulette: Try something new besides your go to restaurants. Or even better take your tried and true favorites to a new setting by getting takeout and going to the park or the drive in!
  3. Learn something new together: Whether it’s a sport you haven’t quite perfected, a dance style you’ve been wanting to try, or even a cooking class, learning something new together is so much fun!
  4. Real estate hopping: So this one sounds like my dream. Go to different open houses or parade of homes to snag ideas for your own dream home.
  5. Bring on the romance: Get all dressed up and head into the city for a fancy dinner for two, get a couples massage, go on a walk, pack a picnic in the mountains, or head to a bed & breakfast.
  6. Recreate your first date: Plan your date as close to your original first date as you can! Have fun reminiscing about how you each remember it, what you were nervous about, or funny details they might not know!
  7. Be adventurous: Do something that will get your hearts racing. Go tubing down a snowy mountain or a river, zip lining through the trees, or ride roller coasters at an amusement park. Every time we do something a little out of our comfort zone we end up having the best time both laughing at ourselves.
  8. Dream big: Make a live list together! My friend Kelly gave me this idea and I absolutely love it. Sit down together and make a list of things you want to accomplish together. It can include simple things like a concert you want to go to together, or restaurant you want to try, as well as bigger goals like places you want to travel someday. It’s so much fun to think about the future together and add new fun ideas!
  9. Keep it simple: You know what works best for you. That one on one time is really what it’s all about, so if hitting the drive thru for a burger + shake and eating it together in your car is all you have time for before the next soccer practice or business meeting, do it!

How We’re Living in a Two Bedroom Rental

Kailee Wright_Nuna Breeze

stripe top |  jeans  |  mini crib  |  harper pjs  |  rug (similar)  |  tree  |  poufs (similar)

. .  SHOP THE POST  . .

I’ve been getting a lot of questions on how we are surviving in a 2- bedroom rental with all 7 of us while we finish our build. And though it’s definitely been chaotic and a little crazy, we are making it work. We feel so blessed to be able to build this new home in an area we love!

Luckily, our littles have been so flexible with everything. They are still at the ages where they are loving having a big sleepover every night. We have Hunter, Hudson, and Hayden sharing a big bed, with Houston in his crib in the same room. The 2nd bedroom has been Joe + I with Harper sleeping in the Nuna Sena. The Nuna Sena alone has been such a lifesaver in this transition. Harper sleeps like a dream in it no matter where we are. And as a bonus it doesn’t take up very much space.

We have had practice sleeping in cozy quarters traveling as a family, but I think the trickiest has probably been sharing one closet between all of us! Ha! To save on space we only brought summer clothes (which we are going to need to switch out pretty quick!), and the basic essentials. The kids all have their favorite toys/things to do, but that is about it!

It hasn’t been the easiest thing to do, and we are ready to get back to what we are more used to, but we know it will be worth the wait in the end! If you have any more questions about anything…the build, our crazy sleeping, you name it – I’m an open book. haha. Hope you all are having a great day!!

8 Tips for Constipation in Kids

kailee-wright-harper-and-bay-top

ruffle top + similar here  |  high waist jeans + here  |  wedges  |  sunnies  |  purse  ||  houston sandals + here

You guys… I have to start off by saying a huge thank you! I don’t know why I am still surprised, but every single time I reach out with a question, whether it be about parenting, home design, something personal, or in this case constipation, no matter what you guys always come out in full force with sooo much helpful advice and I could not be more grateful for you taking the time to support not only me, but the little community we’ve built here.

So as some of you may know, Houston has always kind of struggled in the poop department. The poor little guy is constantly struggling with constipation. I was feeling at my wits end like we had tried just about everything out there! So like I always do when I need some advice, I turned to you guys and oh my did you come through!! I promised to share all of the helpful tips in case any of you and your littles are going through the same struggle. So below I’ve shared the top 8 recommendations! I’ll keep you all updated on what we try + hopefully what works!

  1. Miralax: This was by far the top suggestion so many of you gave! I would recommend checking with your pediatrician first, but once you have the okay, it is a great option!
  2. Kids Probiotics Vitamins: This was a very close second place, and one I never thought of myself! I’m excited to try this one for all my kids to get the added vitamins they need!
  3. Chiropractor Adjustment: I couldn’t believe how many of you recommended this! I’ve heard it can help with so many other issues for  babies + kids so its definitely worth a shot!
  4. Drink lots of water: This one has always been a hard one for me, and I’m thinking my bad habit might rub off on my little people. Hoping something so easy can help!
  5. Eat the “P’s”:  I have heard the usual “eat prunes” before, but didn’t realize the other P foods that can really help with digestion. You guys recommended Pears, Peas, Peaches, Plums, Prunes, and more!
  6. Culturelle Regularity: This is another one I would check with a Pediatrician first, but all of you that recommended it saw great results and fast! You can get it on amazon here.
  7. Happy Tots Fruit + Veggie Pouches: Really excited to try this one! I’m always up for an excuse to secretly sneak in more veggies, and those of you who recommended these say your kids love them and they really help “ease” things out! haha! Plus who doesn’t love the ease of those pouches with independent little toddlers?!
  8. DigestZen Oil: I don’t really use oils too often at our house, but the benefits of this one seem too good to be true!

I hope some of these suggestions help any of you out that are stuck in the same situation as us! I will keep you all updated on my stories with what I try + hopefully what is successful! Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!!
