Five Things To Do Before Baby Comes

Kailee Wright_Getting Ready for Baby

Getting ready for baby can be a bit overwhelming. But if you simplify things into categories it can take a little stress out of it all. These are the five things I usually try to do before any of my babies come.

. .  SHOP MY FAVORITE BABY GIRL ITEMS  . .

  1. wash all baby clothes:  This is a definite must! Babies will go through so many outfits before you know it. Having their clothes washed and ready for when you come home will save you so much time.
  2. stock freezer + fridge:  This is especially essential if you have other little people running around! When you get home with a brand new baby, you usually don’t want to leave home. Having your fridge + cupboards stocked and ready will relieve a ton of stress of trying to figure out what to do for dinner + lunches.
  3. wash bottles + binkis  + pump (if you use one) : Once again, this will save you lots of time when you get home. Everything is prepped and ready for baby. This is just one less thing to worry about.
  4. get a mani + pedi:  This is a personal favorite! I don’t know about you, but after I get home with baby I usually don’t leave house for a few days + and never get ready! Having a mani + pedi already done makes me feel just a little more put together when I’m having those days of staying in my robe and pajamas all day.
  5. get your house cleaned:  This one is a favorite or me. I always feel better and less stressed when I have a clean home. You’re already going to be so tired when you come home from the hospital, and cleaning a dirty home will be on the last of your to do list. Plus, you should be resting + snuggling a baby – not cleaning. Although it doesn’t last long at our house (with 4 little people running around), there is still no better feeling than coming home to a clean house + not having to worry about it!

5 Tips for Layering

Kailee Wright_Layers

basic tee  |  leggings  |  chunky cardigan  |  over coat  |  scarf – similar  |  beanie  |  grey uggs  |  haydens uggs  |  baby uggs

Kailee Wright_Layers
So I’ve been a California girl for the past 5 years and we don’t have much need for a bunch of layers. But after our trip to Salt Lake City, Utah to look for house’s I quickly realized this would be our families new reality next year.

We were in Louisville, Kentucky before California so I do have a sense of layering from those 4 years there + I forgot how much work it is to get all the little people bundled up and take it all off again!! haha. Anyways, I thought I’d share 5 tips + tricks for layering and keeping a bit of shape in between it all so you don’t feel like a huge marshmallow.

  • Basics : Always start with your basic layers — these are key pieces everyone has. For example:  leggings, a plain white tee, any long sleeve shirt like grey or black, and tights.

  • Layering Pieces : This is the piece that you usually will end up in once your inside.  Any button up tops, light blouses, super lightweight sweaters, so you know all the cozy goodness.

  • Mixing Textures :  So this is what can change your entire look. You can add texture with chunky sweaters, scarves, even a vest, ugg boots. Anything with texture, throw it on!!

  • Hero Piece : This is you main top layer — such as a trench coat or rain coat, snow coat, or peacoat. I’ve even seen a long duster as the hero piece in not so cold places…like Cali.

  • Accessories : This is always my favorite, because it just completes your whole look and depending on with what accessories you go with…again you can change your entire look by wearing a hat or beanie, adding a bright colored purse or a neutral one. Also, gloves, and sunnies are a great addition.

Well I hope these tips help you layer through out the rest of the winter season!! I am already stocking up on winter items for next  from Nordstrom for myself and the little people, as I know we are all going to freeze our first winter up there. Ahhhh, it will be night and day from our usual California winters.

Pregnancy Update + A Few Thoughts

kailee-wright-family-pictures
dress (sold out) similar + similar  |  heels + similar + similar (had they been seen) + reality sneakers
I’ve been getting a lot of questions + sweet concerns about how I’m currently feeling and have been feeling, how is baby doing and more. I just want to say thank you for all your kind emails and comments!! They really have mean a lot. So today I thought since I’m being induced in 3 days (or maybe going sooner on my own) I might as well do my first pregnancy update — and last. haha.
How far along: I will be 39 weeks this Friday. I have been started with my last two babies, as well, due to how fast my deliveries are and complications with my pelvic bone separating. Last time with Houston they induced me two weeks early because I could hardly walk and he was still 8 lbs 3 oz. So I’m kinda nervous to see how big baby girl is going to be.
Weight gain/loss: I honestly have no idea. I didn’t want to look or keep track of a number and feel bad if I gained too much or not enough. This is my 8th pregnancy (5 little people + 3 miscarriages) and in all reality it doesn’t matter to me as long as baby is healthy.
Sleep: this pregnancy has probably been the worst with sleep. I feel like I haven’t slept in months due to my pelvic bone separating and all the pain that goes along with that + I just feel my body is getting old and can’t keep up. haha.
Food cravings: I don’t think I’ve ever had really bad cravings. I mean when I’m not pregnant I still want ice cream and pepsi all the time – so I don’t think much as changed. Except for now both make me sick and not sleep.
What I miss: sleeping on my stomach + being able to move from side to side in bed and not feel pain.
Stretch marks:  yep, just on my stomach around my belly button. I got them with my 2nd baby (Hudson) I have tried every lotion / stretch march cream out there and I honestly think it’s just genes. You either get them or your don’t. I know some of my friends love this for their boobs and this for their stomach.
Belly button: outtie from the minute I find out I’m pregnant. haha. No but mine pops out pretty fast and makes my mom and sisters sick.
Upcoming appointments/events: being induced this Friday morning!!
What I look forward to: having my whole family here for our last baby is something so special to me. They were all there with our first, Hunter, but haven’t been able to ALL be at another birth until now!! Everyone fly’s/drives in Thursday and I feel like it’s Christmas all over again!!
To say I’m not completely nervous for baby five would be a lie. I know we have done this four times before, but for some reason the number FIVE is totally freaking me out!! Like I don’t know if we can handle FIVE little people!! Right now, I’m just trying to think about holding that sweet little girl and praying that she is perfectly healthy and that delivery is fast and smooth. Wish us luck!! And I’ll let you know how five is. haha.

5 Must Have Nursery Items

baby-nursery-must-haves

oilo bedding  |  oilo glider  |   crib   |  black + white art  |  baskets  |  dresser  ||  image via

With moving + house hunting lately I am getting super excited to redo/decorate our new home. (more then likely it won’t be new…but it will be new to us) With baby girl almost here I thought it might be time to start thinking about the nursery. haha. She’s only coming in 7 days and I’m now just thinking about it. Our babies stay in our room for the first couple of months so I’m not to stressed but it got me thinking about a few key pieces I need to start looking at and get ordered. I wish I had done a few things different with Houston’s nursery — like invested in a nice rocker or recliner. (won’t be making that mistake again) So it got me thinking I thought  I’d share the 5 key pieces I think every nursery needs!! You can see them below.

houston-nursery

crib + dresser  |  bedding  |  rug  |  table + chairs  |  storage baskets  |  gold animals  |  pink square baskets  |  white shelves  |  rocking chair

kailee-wright-nursery

Rocker :  Having a “good” rocker in the nursery is definitely on the top of my must haves. It is a life saver for those long nights with my first thee babies and then I thought I’d get all “modern” and go for a simple hard chair and I have regretted it ever since.

. .  SHOP MORE ROCKERS  . .

Crib :  So we all know a crib is a no-brainer but I think a bunch of cribs are WAY over priced + plus my little ones have always ended up chewing the rails. haha. I am loving these modern cribs a lot!! To me, the crib is the “main” item of the nursery room. I base a lot of my designing the room off of the crib + bedding. I am loving these oval cribs (but sheets would be limited) – BUT it is such a fun statement item! I’ve been eyeing this one and it’s only $380!!

. .  SHOP MORE CRIBS  . .

Bedding :  I love to get my crib bedding from Oilo. They always have the best designs + I love that they even make bedding for the oval crib mattresses too! Nordstrom and Pottery Barn Kids also have a great selection!!

Dressers + Changing Tables :  Changing tables are always fun to have in the nursery. It makes changing diapers a little bit easy by having them at your height instead of always bending down to do it on the floor. The drawers are also super handy + perfect place for extra storage. But I also love a true dresser so you can use it after baby has grown out of the diaper phase.

. .  SHOP DRESSERS + CHANGING TABLES  . .

Accessories + Greenery :  Accessories are definitely a must have! They tie the entire room together and give the room that fun + unique look to it. I always like to have some greenery or fig tree in the room, whether the plants are real or fake. It gives the room some life to it + I always think they make the room a little more refreshing.

So we are official on the countdown till baby girl gets here!! The little people are flipping out and ask daily “How many more days till baby comes out?” haha. With my last + final pregnancy ending soon I thought I’d share my top five maternity jeans with you all!! I’ve been through a lot of brands + styles through out the years with all my pregncnies and these FIVE jeans are by far my favorite + most comfortable. So tell your expecting mama friends to hop on over here!!

. .  SHOP MY TOP 5 MATERNITY JEANS  . .

  1. Light Jean: I love having a lighter weight maternity jean. These jeans are over the belly + have a great stretch to last all through your entire pregnancy. Which we all need one pair like this.
  2. White Jean: These white jeans are also an “over the belly fit”. They are lightweight and really comfortable. This is usually the cut I have to go with due to my huge belly. haha.  I also cut my own holes in the jeans which is a super easy trick to change up the style of the jean!
  3. Darker Jean: This pair of darker jeans are from Madewell! The low cut low in front + high in the back really allow these jeans to stay put!! They are the low belly coverage and I love distressing + holes in the knees. They also have a raw edge hem that I love!!
  4. Black Jean: I absolutely love these black jeans that are also a from  Madewell. They are pretty stretchy and won’t bag or slip down as you go throughout your day! My belly is usually to big for any “low band or low belly” jeans but these are the first pair I have found that work!!
  5.  Boyfriend Jean: These jeans are made with a heavier material that is great for the first half to middle of pregnancy or during those cold winter months. I love the full coverage in the front + also love the boyfriend style fit!

Let me know if you have any favorites that I MUST add to the list!! I always like to update post + hear all your wonderful suggestions!! Thank you all for your love + support here!!

How in the world is New Years Eve tomorrow? Really? Right now we don’t have plans, but sometimes last minute get-togethers come up, so we’ll see what happens. I think it’s always fun to get dressed up for the holiday’s – but if your unsure of plans and something comes up last minute it’s nice to have a back up outfit for those occasions.

Being 38 weeks pregnant I was not about to buy a dress for “just incase”, as I’m sure a bunch of you wouldn’t either. So today I thought I’d share an easy back up outfit and my always “go to – everybody looks great in” outfit.

An all black look should be a closet staple for everyone!! (really these should be the first staple items you buy)  I love this basic black dress because you can wear it anytime for any occasion…add a jacket and you’ve got a great combo! Buuuuut what can take an outfit from day to night or to party ready are your shoes!! Honestly, you’d be surprised how much your shoes can change your entire look. I love these cage sandals from Macy’s and how they completely doll up my basic dress. I’ve also been eyeing these heels + these over the knee boots – they add spice to any outfit.

So go through you closet tonight and pull out those basic black dresses or black staple items and start pairing them with some of your fancier heels, pumps and more. You’ll be surprised at how much your shoe choice can change your outfit.

Also, Macy’s is having their after Christmas Sale! You can get an extra 20% off with the code JOY. Now tell me some of your New Years Eve plans?! We are probably laying low with the little people at nana’s house, but I’d love to hear all the fun things you guys do!!

Where We’re Moving + a Little Background

kailee_wright

pillow  |  chair – similar  |  boots  | image via my sweet friend

So I told you guys a few weeks ago that we would be moving again + settling down — and hopefully this will be our last move for a very long time. Just to catch you all up here’s a little background as to why we have moved so much in the past years.

kailee_wright

lamp  |  frames + here  |  rug  |  pillows (1) (2) (3)

Joe and I got married over 12 years ago and right away he knew he wanted to do something in the medical field. So I guess I sort of got a small warning that we’d be moving and maybe a lot from day one.

We lived in Southern Utah for 4 years while Joe got is Bachelors degree, then moved to Louisville, Kentucky for medical school. This move was one of the hardest for me as it was the very first time I had left home, ever!! Luckily we had friends in Louisville that made the transition so much easier for me.

After 4 years in Kentucky we got accepted for an Anesthesia Residency in Southern California!! We were thrilled about being back on the West Coast and in drivable distance from family. (I was so over flying by myself with three little people) So to be able to drive was a game changer!! After 4 years in California Joe decided that he’d like to do ONE more year and do a Cardiac Fellowship (specialize in hearts) before applying for a job.

So here we are now (or actually this past summer) applying for jobs and Joe flying everywhere for interviews. We interviewed in Utah, St. George to be exact because that is where we are from + both our parents still live there, Northern Utah, Las Vegas, Idaho and had plans to interview in California and Arizona. I honestly didn’t love any of this…trying to debate about what place was best for our family + hoping they even give you an offer was beyond stressful!!!

Fast forward….a few days before Thanksgiving we got THE phone call. Joe stepped outside to take it and I was so busy with the kids I didn’t know what was going on. He walked into the house 5 minutes later all the while I thought he was taking out the trash. haha. He slammed the door and yelled/screamed “guess what?!!” At the moment I knew something was up. He then said we are moving to Salt Lake City, Utah!!! I about died because I didn’t want to even get my hopes up of finally being able to live next to my sisters!!

All in all, we and couldn’t be more thrilled to live by family!! It’s been almost 10 years since we’ve lived by any family so this is huge for us and the little people can hardly believe it!! So I wanted to answer a couple questions we’ve been asked recently about the move…

How long till we move?  We are planning to move once the little people are out of school in June. Joe won’t be done with his Residency until the end of June…so we will see what happens.`

Are we selling our house in California?  Yes!! So if you know anyone that wants it let me know!! haha. We will probably put our house up for sale sometime in March or April. Wish me luck trying to show a house with two babies under 18 months.

Do we plan to build or buy?  We are headed up to Salt Lake as I type this!! We are currently looking at all options…buying old + fixing up, building or even renting if we have to. So nothing is off the table.

Of course I started pinning like crazy over on my Pinterest Home board for all ideas for building/renovating!! I’m hoping to share our progress all along the way!! So stay tuned for a bunch of crazy and a lot of fun (and hopefully I don’t lose my mind) along the way. haha

Hope you all had a fabulous Christmas!! We are still in Utah with family and soaking up every moment before baby girl comes. Also, I can’t believe my last pregnancy is almost over! So I decided to finally share all my favorite maternity basics.

Leggings are a must during pregnancy + I absolutely love these maternity leggings. I also love these non-maternity leggings! They are so comfy and I love wearing them when running errands, soccer, etc or at this stage in pregnancy EVERY DAY! My favorite maternity items to wear are definitely dresses because they aren’t too tight around your belly + they are easy outfits to put together.

At the begining of pregnancy I would wear a ton of jeans + tee combo’s — this is one of my favorite white tees + jeans. I feel like keeping it simple is always best when pregnant + having four other little people. haha. You can always dress up any outfit with your shoes or jewelry so don’t stress too much over your clothes. Just always get what is most comfortable.

If you’ve followed along here for awhile you know how important Joe and I think date night is! I shared a post about our date nights a few moths ago — you can read it HERE. Well, as we are nearing the birth of baby #5 (that kinda freaks me out to type that) date nights have become even that more special + important as we know it will be quite awhile before we can go out alone again.

I seem to get all sentimental and emotional (I’m blaming the hormones) that an old phase is about to end and a new one is going to begin. Life the past 9 months have been crazier then ever with Joe’s Cardiac Fellowship starting last July + the new hours that come with that, along with the 3 oldest kids in soccer all at the same time, both girls in dance, Joe traveling for job interviews, having a 17 month old + being pregnant on top of it all.

Date nights have been my saving grace and time to talk about life, let out all my worries + excitements about our new adventures coming up (like moving) + more. Joe has had a love hate with date night in the past because of the “getting dressed” up part. haha. But I’m being serious. Though this last year he has actually gotten better and stepped out of his normal tee shirt + shorts and flipflop style. It’s only taken 13 years but I thinks he’s finally come around to the idea that button ups + jeans aren’t too bad. Especially, since we will be moving to colder weather next year. (can’t wait to share with you all where we’re moving)

I made a huge Nordstrom order last week for our entire family, since the littles have all grown out of their winter clothes + Joe needed some updated items as well. And you know I grabbed baby girl some outfits and myself a few things for after baby comes. I didn’t want any stress of returning items that don’t fit – but with free returns with Nordstrom there’s no stress!!

Also, I rounded up a bunch of my favorites jeans + sneakers below if your looking for any last minute gifts for the men in your life. Some items can still arrive on Christmas Eve if you order today. Hope your all ready for Christmas – because I’m not — so please send help!

5 Tips to Finding Your Personal Style

pink-bodycon-dress-denim-jacket

denim jacket + here  |  dress  |  booties similar + here  |  clutch  |  watch  |  ring  |  bar necklace

. .  SHOP THE POST  . .

pink-bodycon-dress-denim-jacket

So I’ve gotten a few emails the past couple months about my style + how I found it. I kinda had to laugh because I feel like at different stages in my life I’m still trying to find it!! Anyway, I thought I’d share a few tips that have helped me figure out my style hrough the years + I hope they’ll help you find your true style and what makes you feel confident + comfortable.

If you’ve followed along for awhile I’m sure you’ve figured out my go-to outfits when I haven’t been pregnantand and my favorites durning pregnancy. Dresses are defiantly a huge favorite during pregnancy and I am a lover of basics when not pregnant — jeans, tees and comfortable sneakers. So lets jump right in…

  • What are your top 10 go to items : Go through your entire closet and pick out the items you wear the most or the ones you ALWAYS reach for. Now take a good look and see how they’re the same, is there a pattern? Like lots of white, bright colors or are most pieces black? Also, when picking out your favorites make sure you have a good variety of tops, bottoms, dresses and shoes so you get a good look at everything you love. Take into account those favorite pieces and try to build the rest of out wardrobe around them. (since they are your favs)
  • Why : Why are the items you picked out your favorites? How do they make your feel? Most of the time our favorites are items that make us feel great about ourselves, or are  comfortable. Maybe we love the color against our skin or we just flat out love the fit of the item. Now take notes when buying new items…remember the colors, and fits that you love and stick with them.
  • Budget : I always say quality over quantity. Just because something is on sale doesn’t mean you need to buy it. Now if you LOVE it, get it!! I personally love to save up for that nice jacket or those basic booties that I know I will wear ALL the time and year round and get the best use out of my money. I’ve made the mistake in the past and bought items just because they were on sale and I “thought I’d maybe wear them”. But in the end I wasted money because I hardly wore them. My mom always has said, “if your not dying over it or feel amazing in it when you try something on – then don’t get it!” This has helped me a lot in making good clothing decisions.
  • Know where to shop : What stores are you drawn to? Or what lookbook outfits do you fall in love with most? You might not notice it, but the stores you shop at say a lot about your persaonl style. For instance Jcrew – I die over their magazine and always find a few outfits that are screaming my name!! Their style is more preppy-basics which I love. Look at some stores like Gap, Abercrombie, Old Navy or Anthropologie. They all have their own style. Look through their lookbooks and see what you are drawn too, that will help you find your personal style. Also, already put together outfits make shopping  a lot easier + it’s nice to see your style laid out.
  • Dress for your body type : What are your best assets? Or what do you get complimented on the most? Play up those areas!! Like if you love your legs – get wearing all those darling skirts and shorts. Or if you have a tiny waist, A-line skirts and fit and flare dresses look amazing on you!! Or if you don’t love your stomach wear loose fitting shirts and some tighter jeans so you feel confident and never uncomfortable. BUT in the end don’t let those determine your style – love your body NOW and just work with it, because you are all beautiful inside and out!!

I hope you all know how much I appreciate your support here and through all the stages of our lives. Babies, pregnancy, motherhood, moving, ever changing my home and just enjoying life + all the friendships we have made along the way. THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for letting me stay home with my littles + do something I love!! I can never thank you enough!!
